      植物个体发育始于种子萌发,后经历营养生长期和生殖生长期(开花期)来完成其生命周期。植物营养期由幼年期和成年期组成,幼年期向成年期转变被称为植物营养生长阶段转变。通常,植物只有在完成营养生长期后才能进入生殖生长期。植物营养生长阶段转变调控一系列重要的生理生化及代谢过程,如调控生殖生长、生物量、植物株型、植物次级代谢产物的合成、对生物与非生物胁迫的响应,以及植物不定根形成等。

      吴刚博士的前期研究表明,植物幼年向成年阶段转变主要受miR156-SPL这一年龄信号途径所调控(Wu et al., Cell, 2009)。目前,吴刚博士主要以拟南芥、番茄和黄瓜等植物为研究对象,借助植物遗传学、分子生物学、生物化学及基因组学的方法,继续探索外界环境因子及内在调控因子调控植物miR156-SPL这一年龄信号通路的分子机制,解析年龄依赖型重要性状形成的分子机理,并探讨这些年龄依赖型性状在植物分子育种上应用。
